This is an example from the very rare deluxe printing of only 100 on Japon Paper. The quality of the woven paper enhances the colour's used in the printing and they are exceptional in quality and detail. At the time of sale (1895-1900) these rare versions were offered at almost 3 times the price of the regular printing to collectors.
An original design used for the cover of "Les Maitre de l'Affiche" The text "Summer Concert" appears on the Cheret poster held aloft by a seated elegantly dressed lady, who bekons us with an inviting smile to admire the posters. This design appears on every Maitre plate, in a blind embossed stamp in the bottom right corner, and on the cover that held the plates sent to subscribers each month.
Subscribers to the Maitre de l'Affiche series received four special plates annually. These premium original lithographs, each an original design, were created specifically for this series, and are not seen in any other format, unlike the regular plates, which are reduced versions of larger posters.
We are most fortunate to have had the inclusion of the Special Plates (Sp), as each one is a true example of the artist's creativity and skill. The artist is unencumbered with a product or service to advertise, and can express himself more freely, demonstrating his drawing ability, the essence of graphic art, with only one or two colours. For many collectors these unique Special Plates are more desirable than any of the regular plates.
