The Portfolio
The "Nouveau Salon des Cent" portfolio consists of a hundred posters created by one hundred of the best graphic designers of our time, from 24 different countries including China, Japan, Mexico, Brazil, Zimbabwe, the United-States and most of the European countries, as a tribute to Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, for the Centenary of his death, 1901-2001. Initiated by the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum Partners' Club. In cooperation with the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum of Albi. The printing was limited to only 380. The posters have been exhibited in major museums and galleries around the world.
The Designer - Niklaus Troxler
Born in Willisau, Switzerland in 1947.
Studied typography in Lucerne, then graphic design at the Art School of Lucerne.
After studies, art director in Paris.
Own graphic design studio since 1973. Organizer of jazz concerts (since 1966) and an annual jazz festival (since 1975) in his home town Willisau.
His many awards include 'Toulouse-Lautrec gold medal' from the Essen Poster Triennial (1987 and 1994), the 1st prize from Chaumont Poster Festival (1992), the gold prize from Lahti Poster Biennale (1993), the 1st prize from Helsinki Poster Biennale (1997) and the 1st prize of Trnava Poster Biennale (1997), the 1st prize at the Hong Kong Poster Triennial 2001, silver award at Brno Biennale (1992), special award at Warsaw Poster Biennale (1992), bronze medal at Toyama Poster Triennial (1994) among many others. Niklaus Troxler got the Swiss Federation Design Award and his posters got awarded 22 times as 'Swiss Poster of the Year'. He won 2 gold, 17 silver and 26 bronze awards from the Art Directors Club of Switzerland. He won the Swiss ADC Special Award in 2000, ADC New York silver cube and distinctive merit award 2001, Art directors Club of Europe, gold award 2001, many awards by 'German Communication Design Prizes' among many other prizes.
His works are in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Hamburg Industrial Arts Museum, the Essen Poster Museum, the Bibliotheque nationale in Paris, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam among others.
Since 1998, he is professor at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart, Germany.
Personal exhibitions in Paris, Berlin, Essen, Hamburg, New York, Mexico, Caracas, Tokyo, Beijing, Chengdu, etc.
He is an AGI (Alliance Graphique Internationale) member since 1990.
