The Portfolio

 

The "Nouveau Salon des Cent" portfolio consists of a hundred posters created by one hundred of the best graphic designers of our time, from 24 different countries including China, Japan, Mexico, Brazil, Zimbabwe, the United-States and most of the European countries, as a tribute to Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, for the Centenary of his death, 1901-2001. Initiated by the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum Partners' Club. In cooperation with the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum of Albi. The printing was limited to only 380. The posters have been exhibited in major museums and galleries around the world.

 

The Designer - Michael Bierut

 

He is a partner in the New York office of the international design consultancy Pentagram and studied graphic design at the University of Cincinnati's College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning. Prior to joining Pentagram in 1990 he was vice president of graphic design at Vignelli Associates in New York. His clients at Pentagram have included Mohawk Paper Mills, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, The Brooklyn Academy of Music, Princeton University, Minnesota Children's Museum and the New York Jets football team.

 

Michael has won many design awards and his work is represented in the permanent collections of museums in North America, Europe and Asia. He has served as president of the New York Chapter of the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA), and is the AIGA's national president emeritus. He is a board member of the Architectural League of New York and a member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale. He writes frequently about design and was co-editor and designer of the Looking Closer anthologies of design criticism as well as the monograph Tibor Kalman, 'Perverse Optimist'. He is also a Senior Critic in Graphic Design at the Yale School of Art.
