Another of the more famous dance posters by Cheret's along with PL.37 (Greg)
"To what extent 'The Lover of Ballerinas' (L'Amant des Danseuses) is lost to the sands of time, but the poster prepared by Cheret for it's promotion remains as a colourful teaser of Svengalian proportions. The coltish dancer appears as if she is either unaware or unconcerned with the fact that she has come under the scrutiny of the shady title character as she gambols about, and even though the piece is alive with requisite Cheret brightness, there is an interesting tension created through his masterful composition. This poster was declared 'rare' by Sagot when he offered it in his (poster) catalogue. It was described as one of his masterpieces (chefs-d'oeuvre) and whereas most other posters were sold in the 3-10 franc range, this one fetched 20" (Rennert, PAI-XXVI, 337)
