Henri Héran The real name of the Symbolist painter and lithographer was Paul Herrmann. Herrmann was born in Munich, but living in Paris decided to adopt a French pseudonym. Héran was a contributor to L'Estampe Moderne. Héran is particularly remembered for his 1907 illustrations to Baudelaire's Petits Poèmes en Prose. Héran was a close friend of the Nobel Prize-winning writer Paul Heyse. (Idbury Prints)

Not unlike the Maitres de L'Affiche series, L'Estampe Moderne was a portfolio printed between 1897-98, published by Imprimerie Champenois, Paris, contained 24 monthly portfolios, with four original lithographs in each. Each commissioned only for this series. Some of the contributing artists included Mucha, Rhead, Meunier, Ibels, Steinlen, Willette and Grasset.
