"Emile Berchmans was one of the first artists from the Walloon region of Belgium to devote himself to posters. He exhibited some of his decorative designs at La Libre Esthetique in 1895, and the following year he started to produce posters, marked by their use of simple lines and flat color planes."

"Berchmans, for his part, astonishes with his power and vigour, and his output of posters was considerable…we can be sure to find solid draftsmanship with strong outlines, good sense of composition and accented colours. His most famous successes are of an astonishing modernism… He left us a legacy of strong and vivid images that have survived the passage of time without a wrinkle"(Paris 1900, p.152)
