"Dresden's C.C. Meinhold & Sons printing house wants you to know that their stone and zinc lithographic presses use the most up-to-date technology available. But instead of shouting it out in a block of text, they take a more dignified approach: by placing a freshly pressed design called "The Modern Poster" in the hands of the printer and, we assume, a discerning client, the graphic point reads loud and clear, in the process creates a wonderful poster-within-poster design. Behrens was something of an artistic jack-of-all-traders, portraits, decorative works, book jackets, humorous vignettes and, of course, posters". (Rennert, XXX, 399)
Behrens was a late 19th century German painter and graphic artist. He is listed in Davenports and Benezit. He studied in Berlin at the School of Art then went on to work as a decorator in Vienna.
