The Portfolio

 

The "Nouveau Salon des Cent" portfolio consists of a hundred posters created by one hundred of the best graphic designers of our time, from 24 different countries including China, Japan, Mexico, Brazil, Zimbabwe, the United-States and most of the European countries, as a tribute to Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, for the Centenary of his death, 1901-2001. Initiated by the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum Partners' Club. In cooperation with the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum of Albi. The printing was limited to only 380. The posters have been exhibited in major museums and galleries around the world.

 

The Designer - Alan Fletcher

 

Alan Fletcher's international design reputation is reflected by
his commissions from major corporations and cultural institutions around the world. He began his career in New York where he worked for Fortune magazine, the Container Corporation and IBM. He moved back to London and in 1962 co-founded Fletcher/Forbes/Gill, which served such clients as Pirelli, Cunard, Penguin Books, BP and Olivetti. He co-founded Pentagram in 1972 and created design programmes for Reuters, Lucas Industries, The Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, The Victoria & Albert Museum, Lloyd's of London, Daimler Benz, Arthur Andersen & Co and ABB. In 1992 he left Pentagram to work alone in his own studio. Among his clients are Domus Magazine, Dentsu, London Transport, Shell, Knoll Pharmaceutical and Toyota.

 

He is design consultant to Phaidon Press. He has received gold awards from the British Designers & Art Directors Association (D&AD) and the New York 'One Show'. In 1977 he shared the D&AD President's Award for outstanding contributions to design with Pentagram partner Colin Forbes. In 1982 the Society of Industrial Artists and Designers awarded him their Annual Medal for outstanding achievement in design. In 1993 he was awarded The Prince Philip Prize for the Designer of the Year.

 

He served as President of the Designers & Art Directors Association in 1973, and as President of the Alliance Graphique Internationale from 1982 to 1985. He is a Royal Designer for Industry, a Fellow of the Chartered Society of Designers, Senior Fellow of the Royal College of Art and Senior Fellow of The London Institute. In 1994 he was elected to the 'Hall of Fame' of the American Art Directors club. Beware Wet Paint, a book on thirty five years of his work, was published by Phaidon in 1996. He has also co-authored Identity Kits - a pictorial survey of visual signs (Studio Vista). Graphic design: visual comparisons (Studio Vista).

Alan Fletcher trained at the Central School of Arts & Crafts, the Royal College of Art in London and the School of Architecture and Design at Yale University.
