"When Century magazine serialised an illustrated Life of Napoleon in 1893, Grasset was commissioned to design a poster to launch the series. He produced a splendid poster of Napoleon at Austerlitz, the Emperor shown astride a white horse, its mane flying as it tosses its head and waves an extraordinary tail. As the equestrian figure stands on a promontory, the background is bisected by a formal pattern of stylized clouds.
