For the 'Exhibition of Arabs of the Sahara Dessert" at the famous Hippodrome, an open-air arena for equestrian sports and games. Cheret masterfully depicts a threatening native rider, in full charge, atop a magnificent steed. With his cape billowing behind him, the rider's sabre is raised with one hand, rifle held in the other (a third hand might be needed by a lesser rider to guide the horse). A wonderfully powerful, masculine departure from Cheret's dancing fairies we have become so intimate with in his posters
