"In Prague the first poster worthy of the (city's) name was that of Hynais from the 'Ethnographic Exposition of 1895." (Weil p.119)
The text explains that the Exposition celebrates people and country, language, songs, dances, costumes and customs, architecture, popular art, etc. from Prague in the 16th century. As well, a lottery to garner interest is announced, tickets 1 crown, main price 25,000 crowns.
The detail of the three lifelike figures, clad in traditional Czech clothing, is striking. Combined with the elaborate patterned Czech designs, along the top and bottom, creates a wonderfully interesting poster. It beckons us to follow the outstretched hand of the caped central figure, to attend this exposition in the summer of 1895.
