#685 from set of only 2000 printed

"For this double-page lithograph, Warhol used the same source image as he did for his Marilyn Monroe paintings and screen prints. Here, he isolated the detail of the movie star's mouth, presenting it at once as a disembodied symbol and a reproducible commodity." (MoMA No.1164.1964.41)

Marilyn Monroe

"Love Your Kiss Forever Forever is Warhol’s first depiction of Marilyn Monroe. Unlike later portrayals of the classic Hollywood star’s likeness set against vibrant colors, here Warhol has detailed a focused image of Monroe’s most seductive feature, set against a stark white backdrop. The print illustrates Monroe’s lips, slightly parted in a sensual, erotic manner that borders on the line of haunting, as if the world’s most popular movie star is in on a secret that the world will never know about. Andy Warhol

Andy Warhol was one of the most influential artists of the second half of the 20th century, creating some of the most recognizable images ever produced. Challenging the idealist visions and personal emotions conveyed by abstraction, Warhol embraced popular culture and commercial processes to produce work that appealed to the general public. He was one of the founding fathers of the Pop art movement, expanding the ideas of Duchamp by challenging the very definition of art. His artistic risks and constant experimentation with subjects and media made him a pioneer in almost all forms of visual art. His unconventional sense of style and his celebrity entourage helped him reach the mega-star status to which he aspired. (theartstory.org)
