"Mucha designed three covers for the periodical Au Quartier Latin. Here, the reclined beauty with the flowing locks is the Queen of Queens, and Mucha has illustrated the procession and heckling of the townspeople. The poem, below, incites gluttons to be charitable:
"Think of the hungry, sybarite!
For the poor and suffering
that the Latin Quarter houses, buy this album."

(Rennert)

The Latin Quarter, Paris ca. 1866

The female figure on the cover personifies the Latin Quarter in Paris, wearing a winged crown made up of the walls of the district. The people of the district rally around her in a call to help rescue the destitute people sheltered within her hands.

Mucha's JOB 1898

"Mucha, The father of Art Nouveau uses his signature design elements to create this magnificent composition. As in a description of his classic 'Job (1898)' poster... "The feature most conspicuous in Mucha posters is shown here: those meandering tresses. A feature of Mucha's productions that was conspicuous, and finally notorious, consisted of wandering but strongly arrived strands used in the decorative transformation of hair... By 1900 his arabesque enhancements, along with other varieties of dreamlike and submarine decoration, were used liberally by designers..." (Rennert/Weill)
