Each season brought several events whose proceeds went to various charities in Paris…Often they turned out to be glittering affairs with prominent public figures in attendance. This particular event is a benefit for the poor of France and Russia" (Gold p.124)

"Noury was born and grew up in Elbeuf (France) where his grandfather was founder and director of the local museum. Although his primary interests were painting and drawing nature subjects, he created several evocative posters of the era " (Rennert, PAI-XXX, 242)
