Full size sold for $ 2,300 US Poster Auctions International, NY, Nov 2005
"La Bodiniere was the exhibition hall of the Theâtre d' application,
offering a variety of attractions from art exhibits to shadow plays one of which
is being advertised here (see below). It is evident that this poster whose bottom
right quarter was left blank to insert the program of the week, in this case,
probably a second attraction was planned, but this specimen was pulled before
its addition." (Wine Spectator 11)
The attraction's listing in the lower right, reads "The March in the Sunshine,
shadow theatre epic play on the Marchand mission (which crossed Central Africa
in 1897-98 to confront the British at Fashoda). The main attraction however is
the charming lady in yellow. | |
