Cassiers is best know for shipping posters depicting ocean liners for the Dover-Ostend,
The American and here the Anglo-Belgian Red Star Line (Anterp from New York).
"The hallmark of Cassiers' individualistic poster style is the sympathetic
and colourful rendering of native people (usually fishermen) and it's from their
vantage point that we see (usually a ship) whatever is being advertised...Born
in Anterp, Cassiers became an aquarellist (watercolorist) of note at an early
age, placing his work at many exhibitions and earning various kudos, his painterly
style continuing into his graphic work" (Rennert,
PAI-XXVII, 325) | |
