"Zlatá Praha (Golden Prague) was a richly illustrated Czech weekly
with a mixture of entertaining and enlightening stories on many subjects. A pioneer
in marketing techniques, it kept readers' interests alive with special inserts,
premiums, and contests. The woman nonchalantly tucking an issue under her arm
looks more like a Paris fashion model than a citizen of this small middle European
country, making it clear that Prague lived on the cutting edge of world fashions"
(Gold p.76) The exceptional printing
techniques of the Chaix printers, whom printed all the Maitre de l'Affiche series,
were, as well, cutting edge. This becomes evident when one examines the clarity
of the extremely small fine print of the newspaper the lady carries, as well as
the overwhelming background of glorious gold inks, that was not often seen, if
at all, in the larger format posters. Truly the work of master lithographers.
