"An advertisement for a violin teacher, a young woman with her head leaning
gently on a violin she is playing. Here again we have a country scene as a background
(as in most of his posters), with trees breaking the perspective. Her dress is
of a greenish tint with Byzantine ornamentations, and her hair falls down gracefully
over her right shoulder. The general colouring is very soft, almost in one shade,
but very artistic, and the composition is well-conceived" (The Poster, July
1898 p.68) "Berthon took the imagery developed by Grasset and transformed
it, creating a small but characteristic body of work which epitomises the Art
Nouveau style on paper" (Berthon
& Grasset, p.8) | |
