Guillaume, a gifted caricaturist, creates a wonderfully memorable character
in the carnival strong man used here to sell Armour & Co meat extract, "The
only one that retains flavour of fresh meat, superior to others." Humorously
clad in his patched tights, complete with medals on his chest, and a tattoo on
his amply muscled arm, he daintily samples the product he personifies from a tea
cup and saucer. There is little doubt as to his strength, as we see the bar bells,
cannon and weight at his feet. A perfectly delightful poster. "Paris sheltered
hundreds of painters at this period. A great many of them brought what talent
they had to the great adventure of the poster, for which demand continued to grow
as it became the vogue. (including) Albert Guillaume, caricaturist, who was one
of the most prolific artists for beverages and various products for whom he made
use of a whole gallery of figures
the carnival athlete (Bouillon Armour)."(Weill
