The Portfolio

 

The "Nouveau Salon des Cent" portfolio consists of a hundred posters created by one hundred of the best graphic designers of our time, from 24 different countries including China, Japan, Mexico, Brazil, Zimbabwe, the United-States and most of the European countries, as a tribute to Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, for the Centenary of his death, 1901-2001. Initiated by the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum Partners' Club. In cooperation with the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum of Albi. The printing was limited to only 380. The posters have been exhibited in major museums and galleries around the world.

 

The Designer - U. G. Sato

 

He was born in Tokyo in 1935. After graduating from Kuwasawa Design School, he established Design Farm. Through the years he has held numerous solo exhibitions including 'My Theory Of Evolution' ( Tokyo) and shows at the Lahti Art Museum (Finland), Print Gallery (Amsterdam), GGG (Tokyo), DDD (Osaka), Kawasaki City Gallery (Kawasaki), Takasaki Art Museum (Takasaki), etc. He has also participated in the following joint exhibitions: 'Wood Boxes' (Gallery, New York), 'Contemporary Humor' (Saitama Museum of Modern Art), 'Art Is Fun' (Hara Art Museum), Poster Exhibition for 'Images internationales pour les droits de I'Homme et du Citoyen' (France and 39 other countries), 'Beauty of Japanese Art' (Retretti Art Center), etc.

 

Among the major awards he has garnered to date are: Gold Prize at International Biennale of Graphic Design Brno, Gold Prize Poster Biennale in Lahti, 'Bulgarian Artists Federation Award in Sculpture' at Humour and Satire Biennale in Gabrovo, Gold Prize at Warsaw International Poster Biennale, Bronze Prize at International Triennial of Poster in Toyama and Special Prize at Helsinki Poster Biennale, Golden Bee Prize at International Biennale of Graphic Design, Moscow. He organized an anti-nuclear poster campaign by fax in Paris and Tokyo to protest nuclear testing by France.

 

His numerous publications include: The World of Evolution of U.G. Sato (Shisakusha), U.G. Sato & Illustration (Bijutsu Shuppan-sha), Zoo, Red and Blue, Together (Fukuinan Shoten), Two-and Four-legged Animals and What's Your Zodiac Sign? (Fukuinkan Shoten, coauthored) and Wood Boxes (Rikuyo-sha, co-authored). He is a member of AGI, JAGDA, TIS.
