The Portfolio
The "Nouveau Salon des Cent" portfolio consists of a
hundred posters created by one hundred of the best graphic designers
of our
time, from 24 different countries including China, Japan, Mexico,
Brazil, Zimbabwe, the United-States and most of the European countries,
as a tribute to Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, for the Centenary of
his
death, 1901-2001. Initiated by the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum Partners'
Club. In cooperation with the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum of Albi.
The
printing was limited to only 380. The posters have been exhibited
in major museums and galleries around the world. View

The Designer - Abbot Miller
He
is a designer and writer whose projects are concerned with the
cultural role of design. Miller joined the New York office of the
international design consultancy Pentagram as a partner in 1999.
Abbott's exhibitions and publications include The Process of Elimination:
The Bathroom, the Kitchen, and the Aesthetics of Waste, and The
ABC's of AMO: The Bahaus and Design Theory, both done in collaboration
with Ellen Lupton, and Printing Letters: The Natural History of
Typography. Others exhibitions include: John Lennon: His Life and
Work, at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland,
O.H.; Village works: Photographs by Women in China's Yunnan Province;
The 30th Anniversary Covers Tour, a year-long 20 city travelling
exhibition for Rolling Stone magazine; Geoffrey Beene Unbound,
a 30 years retrospective of the clothing designers work; and both
On the Job: Design and the American Office, and World War II and
the American Dream: How Wartime Building Changed a Nation, at the
National Building Museum in Washington DC. Miller's clients have
also included Banana Republic, Vitra, The Whitney Museum of American
Art, The Guggenheim Museum, and The Library of Congress.
Abbott's publication design has been acknowledged with numerous
awards, particularly his work for Twice magazine which received
the Magazine of the Year from the Society of Publication Designers
as well as for his work for Dance Ink magazine which received a
gold medal from the SPD, and which was nominated twice for a National
Magazine Award. His writing has been published in Eye, Print, LD.,
The Journal of Graphic Design, and Emigre. He is a contributing
editor of Eye magazine. He is a member of the Society of Environmental
Graphic Designers, a member of the American Institute of Graphic
Arts, and a member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale. In
1994 Abbott - together with his partner Ellen Lupton - was awarded
the first Chrysler Award for Innovation in Design. The award acknowledges
practice in the fields of architecture, industrial design, and
graphic design. Abbott recently received the prestigious International
Center of Photography Infinity Award for his use of photography
in design.
Since 1997 Abbott has been co-chair, with Ellen Lupton, of the
Graphic Design Department at the Maryland Institute College of
Art in Baltimore. |
