The Portfolio
The "Nouveau Salon des Cent" portfolio consists of a
hundred posters created by one hundred of the best graphic designers
of our
time, from 24 different countries including China, Japan, Mexico,
Brazil, Zimbabwe, the United-States and most of the European countries,
as a tribute to Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, for the Centenary of
his
death, 1901-2001. Initiated by the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum Partners'
Club. In cooperation with the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum of Albi.
The
printing was limited to only 380. The posters have been exhibited
in major museums and galleries around the world. View

The Designer - Franco Balan
 Born
in Aosta where he now lives and works. Honorary Member of AIAP (Italian Association of Visual Communication).
Italian member of AGI (Alliance Graphique Internationale). Member
of AD[ (Industrial Design Association). Member, since 1998, of
the Academie de Saint-Anselme, Aosta.
His work lies in design research and visual communication, uniting
artistic experience with his activity as a visual designer. He
mostly does posters and combined images, and has created many posters
for Italian and foreign cultural events. He has participated in
numerous exhibitions in Italy and abroad, receiving prizes and
awards. In 1954 he gained experience in Warsaw with Tomaszewski,
Majewski and Graboswski. In 1975 he engaged in an educational project
with primary schools, an experience he was to return to later.
In 1978 he entered the UNO competition in Geneva and won first
prize as graphic artist of the year. In 1985 he returned to Warsaw
for lessons at the Akademia Sztuk Pieknych.
He created and produced the Gran Paradiso National Park logo
and signs. He designed the Espace Mont-Blanc logo. In 1991 he had
an
exhibition at the G 8 Chinza Gallery, Tokyo.
Some of his works are now in the Museum of Modern Art in New
York, the Villanow Museum of Warsaw and in the Museum of Lathi
in Finland.
From 1993 onwards he dedicated himself more to painting and carried
out a series, 'The 14 Stations of the Cross', which was presented
in 2000.
In 1996 he worked on school projects and gave lessons on studying
the image. In 1997, with his son Joel, he set up a services studio
which combines traditional graphics with new multimedia innovations.
Between 1998 and 2000 he exhibited at the gallery of the Autonomous
Region of Aosta Valley in Rome.
On the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the Alliance Franpaise
he held an exhibition entitled 'Generation XX'. In 2001 he held
an exhibition in Aosta's Piazza del Forum entitled 'Universo Balan',
sponsored by the Autonomous Region of Aosta Valley and the Department
for Education and Culture, and presented by Mario Piazza.
