Marie Auguste Émile René Ménard was a contributor to
L'Estampe moderne. He was born in Paris, into an artistic family -
his father René Joseph Ménard and uncle Louis Nicolas Ménard were
both noted painters. Émile René Ménard first exhibited at the Salon
des Artistes Français in 1883. Émile René Ménard was part of the Bande
Noire group that centred around Charles Cottet. (Idbury Prints)
Mucha Cover
Not unlike the Maitre de L'Affiche series, L'Estampe
Moderne was a portfolio printed between 1897-98, published
by Imprimerie Champenois, Paris, contained 24 monthly portfolios,
with four original lithographs in each. Each commissioned only for
this series. Some of the contributing artists included Mucha, Rhead,
Meunier, Ibels, Steinlen, Willette and Grasset.
