The Psychedelic 60s: Posters From the Rock Era. Toledo, Ohio, USA
Toledo Museum of Art from June 11 through Sept. 12.
In mounting the exhibition, the Museum has taken care to replicate the
atmosphere of the late 60's through sound, staging and lighting,
including the use of black light when appropriate, so viewers become
immersed in elements of the counter-culture the posters depict.
“There are many artists, many styles and a good range of bands,”
says Amy Gilman, the Museum’s associate curator. “A lot of people did
Jimi Hendrix posters, and you’ll see how different people had a different
take on him. The exhibition presents a great window on that time period.”

Rockwell and the Movies. Stockbridge, Maine, USA
Norman Rockwell Museum from July 3 through Oct. 31.

Though Norman Rockwell is often identified with home town life in New England,
he was a frequent visitor to California, and was called upon by Hollywood to create imagery for posters advertising films of his day. This installation exploring Rockwell’s art for the movies features original paintings, vintage posters, lobby cards, and original portraits of movie stars drawn from the Museum’s Art and Archival Collections and
private collections of Rockwell’s art.
